Designing a Villa Bedroom: What Bali's Best Properties Have in Common

The highest-rated villa bedrooms in Bali share a few consistent qualities: they feel spacious without being sparse, they use natural materials, and every piece of furniture feels intentional rather than generic.

Fewer, better pieces

A common mistake is filling a room. The villas that photograph well — and that guests rave about — tend to have a statement bed, two considered side tables, and very little else. Negative space is part of the design.

Texture over colour

Bali's best interiors layer textures: smooth teak against woven rattan, stone floors beneath cotton linen. Colour palettes stay earthy and neutral because they don't compete with the garden or pool view outside.

The bed is the room

A platform bed in solid teak, low to the ground and slightly oversized, anchors the entire room. Everything else supports it. We've found that clients who invest in the bed frame and keep everything else simple end up with spaces that feel far more expensive than they are.
